Taylor GS Mini Rosewood Acoustic Review

Note: I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.

The original GS Mini is no longer available from Taylor. What we have here is the Taylor GS Mini, Rosewood Edition. It’s the same instrument with a little rosewood added.

You might still find the original GS Mini guitar in the market, either new from a third party seller or used from an after-market owner.

If you want to quickly check on the pricing and availability of the rosewood edition at Amazon, you can click (or tap) the link just below.

The GS, which stands for Grand Symphony, is slightly smaller than a full sized guitar. It’s scale length is 23 ½ inches. It still has 20 frets, which is the same number that you get on many larger instruments.

The neck width is 1 11/16 inches and is made of tropical mahogany. The fretboard is a lucious, varnished ebony.

Moving towards the head, you’ll find a nut and saddle of Nubone, tuners of diecast chrome, and a peghead overlay of Indian rosewood – thus, the name of this version of the GS acoustic.

Heading back down the neck, we get to a varnished body measuring 17 ⅝ inches in length by 14 ⅜ inches in width by 4 7/16 inches in depth. Combined with the X bracing inside, this gives you a wonderful bass sounds from the Elixir phosphor bronze medium strings that you get out of the box.

The 3-ring rosette is plastic, and the pickguard is tortoise shell. To keep all this somewhat safe, you get a soft gig bag. (Taylor doesn’t make a hard shellcase for this size of instrument.)

The video below gives you a brief comparison of the GS Mini to the Baby Taylor, which is a bit smaller. You can really hear the difference in sound.

Assuming you listened to the video, you’ll note that both are good guitars. Whether you decide on the GS Mini or not will depend on the size and tone you want.

If this Taylor acoustic guitar doesn’t seem to be what you were looking for, see if there’s a small Martin guitar here that would suit you better.
